JUNIOR BETA CLUB
5th - 8th grades
Mission Statement:
The purpose of The National Junior Beta Club shall be to promote the ideals of character, service, and leadership among students, and to reward students for their academic achievement.
Club Membership (Academics):
To be eligible for the club, all students must have a 93 average or above in the academic subjects of science, social studies, communication skills, and mathematics.
Fifth grade students will be invited to join after the first semester if they have a 93 average in their academic subjects.
New students enrolling from other schools will be invited to join the Junior Beta Club after they have been enrolled at Hayesville Middle School for one semester with a 93 average in their academic subjects, and school records from their previous school indicate their eligibility to join the club.
In order to stay in the club, students must maintain a 90 average in their academic subjects. A Junior Beta sponsor will be checking student averages each grading period. If a grade average falls below 90, the student will be put on probation. If the grade average does not return to a 90 average or above for the second consecutive grading period, the student will be removed from the Junior Beta Club.
Club Membership (Character):
A Junior Beta Club member must set an example for the rest of the school. Therefore, any behavior that is not in keeping with the goals of the Junior Beta Club will not be tolerated.
Fifth grade students: If a 5th grade Junior Beta member is assigned OSS (Out of School Suspension), the member will be put on probation. If the member is assigned OSS for a second time in the same school year, the member may be removed from the HMS Junior Beta Club.
Note: ISS does not apply to fifth grade students.
Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students: If a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade Junior Beta member is sent to ISS (In School Suspension) the member is put on probation. If the member is sent back to ISS for a second time in the same school year, the member may be removed from the Junior Beta Club. If a member is assigned OSS (Out of School Suspension) the member may be removed from the club.
Club Officers and Representatives (Leadership):
Model behavior is expected from the club officers and representatives of the HMS Junior Beta Club. If the behavior of any officer or representative results in 1 ISS (In School Suspension) then the officer or representative will be removed from that leadership position.
8th grade members elect a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and 1 class representative.
5th, 6th, and 7th grade members elect 3 representatives from each grade.
Club membership (Service to others):
All members are required to promote the ideals of the HMS Junior Beta Club and to do their fair share when assigned duties.
Meetings and Trips:
The 5th and 6th grade members meet together regularly and will take a day field trip in the spring.
The 7th and 8th grade members meet together regularly and will take an overnight field trip in the spring.
