Internet access providing vast, diverse, and unique resources to both students and staff is now available to Clay County Schools (CCS). Our goal is to promote educational excellence by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication.
The Internet is an electronic highway connecting thousands of computers all over the world and millions of individual subscribers. Students and staff have access to the following:
Electronic mail communication
Information and news from worldwide resources and research institutes
Public domain software and shareware of all types
Discussion groups and material on virtually any subject
Access to many university library catalogs, the Library of Congress and ERIC
With worldwide access comes the availability of material that may not be of educational value. Clay County Schools has taken precautions to restrict access to inappropriate materials. On a global network it is impossible to control all materials, and users may encounter objectionable material. However, Clay County Schools believes that access to valuable information and interaction on the network outweighs this possibility.
Internet access is coordinated through an association of government agencies and regional and state networks. Smooth operation of the network relies upon the proper conduct of the users adhering to guidelines and responsibilities noted in this agreement. If a user violates any terms and conditions, his or her account will be terminated and future access may be denied. Signatures at the end of this document are legally binding and indicate that parties who signed have carefully read the terms and conditions and understand their significance.
1) Acceptable Use-National Science Foundation Network(NSFNET), the backbone network to the Internet supports research and education among academic institutions by providing access to unique resources and the opportunity for collaborative work. The use of an account must support education and research and be consistent with the objectives of Clay County Schools. Use of other organization networks or computing resources must comply with the rules appropriate for that network. Transmission of material in violation of U.S. or state regulation is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, copyrighted, threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade secret. Commercial use and use for product advertisement and/or political lobbying is also prohibited.
2) Privileges- The use of the Internet is a privilege, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of privileges. Each user will receive direction in the proper use of the network. The system technology administrators will determine inappropriate use and may close an account as required. The administration, faculty, and staff of Clay County Schools may request the system technology administrator deny, revoke, or suspend specific user accounts.
3) Network Etiquette- The user is expected to abide by rules of network etiquette. They include, but are not limited to the following:
Do not use abusive, profane, or vulgar language.
Illegal activities are strictly forbidden. Messages relating to or in support of illegal activities may be reported to the authorities.
Do not reveal addresses or phone numbers.
Note that electronic mail (e-mail) is not guaranteed private. Operators of the system do have access to all mail.
Do not use the network in such a way as to disrupt the use of the network by other users.
Understand that all communications and information accessible via the network are considered private property.
4) Liabilities- Clay County Schools makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service provided. CCS is not responsible for damages suffered, including the loss of data resulting from delays, non-deliveries, mis-deliveries, or service interruptions caused by its own negligence or the users errors or omissions. Use of any information obtained via the Internet is at users own risk. Clay County Schools specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its services.
5) Security- Security is a high priority, especially when the computer system involves many users. If a user identifies a security problem on the Internet, he/she must notify a system technology administrator or Clay County Schools Technology Coordinator. Users are not to use another individual's account. Attempts to breach security will result in cancellation of the user's account.
6) Vandalism- Vandalism will result in cancellation of privileges. Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy data of another user, the Internet, or any of the networks that are connected to the NSFNET Internet backbone. This includes, but is not limited to, the uploading or creation of computer viruses.
I understand and will abide by the Internet Use Agreement. I further understand that any violation of the regulations is unethical and may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation, my access privileges may be revoked and school disciplinary action and/or appropriate legal action may be taken.
