I am beginning my 37th year in education. I grew up in Haywood County and graduated from Pisgah High School. I have a Bachelors' degree in Industrial Arts from Western Carolina University. I also have a Masters' degree in Administration from WCU. I taught and coached in Haywood and Buncombe Counties for 16 years. I have been an assistant principal and principal at elementary and high schools in Buncombe, Haywood, and Abbeville (SC) counties before coming to Clay County. I was principal at Hayesville Elementary School for 10+ years before my recent move to Hayesville Middle School. I feel blessed to have worked with so many incredible students and staff over the years.
My wife, Shelley, also works at Clay County Schools as the Finance Director. We have two grown children, daughter, Jordan (Boone) and son, Tyler (Asheville), and two daughters Savannah and Caleigh, who both attend Hayesville High School.
I am a life-long resident of Hayesville, North Carolina and am blessed to be able to raise my own children in the Clay County School system. Science was my first love in education, which led me to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree from WCU after graduating from Hayesville High School. Soon after finishing up that degree, I made the decision to return to WCU to obtain my teaching license in middle and high school comprehensive science. I have spent the majority of the last 17 years as a middle school science teacher at HMS, but moved into the Assistant Principal position in 2016. In the summer of 2018, I completed my Master's in School Administration from Appalachian State University.
As an educator, it is my desire to see children develop a love of learning and I believe the teachers at HMS have the gifts and abilities to bring that out in all of our students. There's no place I would rather be than Hayesville Middle School!
